After Metro General Manager Paul announced that Metrorail will close today for daylong maintenance, a host of politicians, local organizations and media folk gave their good, bad, and somewhere in between comments on the matter. But how has the general public responded?
Public reactions have been somewhat the same, with mixed emotions. Some predicted the nation’s capitol would be in complete chaos.
Everybody in the DMV today with #wmata #unsuckdcmetro shut down be like: pic.twitter.com/qHmEzf6NHX

And while D.C.’s already gridlocked roads did hit reach a new level of congestion for some folks …
In case anyone was wondering about what traveling DC is like with no metro today #dcmetro pic.twitter.com/JiITO8N2Ke

Others opted to take Capital Bikeshare (which offered 24 hour free membership today) or stroll to work.
Actual bike congestion this morning, but thank you @bikeshare for another seamless commute! #unsuckdcmetro

At least it’s turning out to be a lovely day for a walk! #dcmetro #MetroShutdown

And some commuters who don’t live in walking distance from the job decided to stay home or work close by.
I’m guessing DC’s coffeeshops are packed to the brim today #UnSuckDCMetro

One woman, apparently missing the system oh so much, decided to pay homage in costume.
I may not live with a functioning metro system but I can wear one! pic.twitter.com/4Vp8mJ5dPL

And the forward-thinking folks are already skeptical about what tomorrow will bring for the system.
If #dcmetro‘s in such disrepair that it needs to be closed for 24hs, someone admit that 24 hours isn’t enough time to fix all the problems
