Do you and your neighbors share the same political convictions as folks down the street? Real estate startup RentHop attempts to answer that question after crunching the Federal Election Commission’s campaign finance numbers. The map below shows which presidential candidates D.C. residents have contributed to, sorted by zip code. But first, here are some highlights.
Hillary Clinton has ten times more D.C. donor dollars than anyone else in the race. Overall, her campaign has banked more than $5 million dollars from D.C. residents, compared to just over $271,000 raised by Bernie’s camp.
District donors may as well have burned up $476,000 but instead, they donated it to Marco Rubio’s campaign. Rubio dropped out Tuesday night, despite winning the D.C. GOP primary.
Of the remaining Republicans, Ted Cruz grossed the most contributions with about $121,000
Folks living near American University have been the most generous, followed by residents of Forest Hills-Woodley and Georgetown-Foxhall
Neighbors surrounding American University gave more than $818,000 to Hillary, $24,000 to Cruz, $21,000 to Bernie, $17,000 to Kasich, and $2,600 to Trump.
After AU folks, Shaw neighbors contributed the second-most to the Republican frontrunner, giving Trump about $1,300.
