Two explosions—one believed to be a suicide bombing—occurred in the departure hall of the airport in the Belgian capital, CNN reports. Belgian media has reported that at least 11 people were killed in this attack. Another explosion happened in the Maelbeek subway station, in which fifteen people were killed and 55 were wounded, according to the Brussels Metro Authority, which shut down the subway system.
At this time, Metro officials don’t know of any threat to D.C.’s transit system, the department added in a Twitter post today. The Alexandria police department also announced on Twitter that officers will patrol metro lots this morning.
