Weed is legal in our fair city, and we’ve got business summits, and workplace comedies to prove it.
Now, for something new: The National Cannabis Festival, which will be making its way to RFK Festival Grounds on Saturday, April 23, with De La Soul headlining. Other performers include local gogo band Backyard Band and area reggae group Nappy Riddem.
The festival describes itself as “a celebration of progress on legalization of marijuana in D.C. and across the nation through live music, advocacy and exhibitions.” In addition to a full-day concert, there’ll be a vendor fair, an education pavilion, and an advocacy fair.
“I am so excited that D.C. will be hosting the inaugural National Cannabis Festival,” D.C. At-large Councilmember David Grosso said in a release. “We have certainly come a long way just in the last 3 years with the help of policy advocates, business owners, and enthusiasts.”
While it’s unclear if D.C. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton will attend the festival, she is joining marijuana advocates today for a press conference in support of the bill she co-sponsored that protects states with medical marijuana programs from federal prohibition.
“D.C. residents unfortunately know all too well what it is like for Congress and the federal government to interfere with a jurisdiction’s local laws,” Norton said in a release. “For more than a decade, Congress blocked our medical marijuana program.”
