With cherry blossom season comes marketing efforts that mine Japanese heritage to sell all sorts of things. Today’s announcement: three sumo wrestlers will be in Shaw on Sunday, April 3 in promotion of two new(ish) luxury apartment buildings.

Byamba, Yama, and Takeshi will be “coming in celebration of cherry blossoms, and to further introduce people to The Shay and Atlantic Plumbing,” says publicist Ashley Arias.

People who show up to the lot at 945 Florida Ave NW between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. will find some “friendly” competitions between a 4-time World Sumo champion, the man billed as the “heaviest Japanese human being in HISTORY!”, and a multi-time University Sumo Champion.

If it takes a sumo wrestler to convince you to rent a $3,000/month apartment in what they insist on calling “North End Shaw,” so be it.
