Update: The Metro tunnel fire near Clarendon station was the result of burning debris, said Metro spokesperson Sherri Ly, adding that it was not a power or cable-related issue.

The department is asking people to avoid the area, and Metro has suspended service between Rosslyn and Ballston. Expect delays on the rest of the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines.

Last week, Metro shut down the rail system for inspection after a cable fire sparked delays and safety concerns on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines. The episode shared similarities with a deadly smoke incident near L’Enfant Plaza in January 2015.

After teams inspected 600 underground jumper cables earlier this month, Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld announced more than two dozen damaged areas.
