Police spent an hour yesterday investigating a piece of artwork rigged into an old call box in downtown D.C.

The area around 15th and L was cleared with no hazardous material found at about 4:15 p.m., MPD said.

Ryan Moorman, a product specialist NGP Van, watched the investigation from his office and filmed it as his skeptical coworkers groaned along. Moorman said he wasn’t sure exactly when or who installed the work—which featured colored strands of washers and a note that said “play with me”—but it was sometime last week and signed “B.” An MPD officer on the scene told Moorman that there was no direct threat, but a concerned individual called and they investigated out of an abundance of caution.

MPD confirmed that account, saying a woman was driving by and said she saw people placing wiring in the box.

The work has since been taken down. “As much as I am a fan of public art, maybe it wasn’t the greatest idea to put up wires in downtown D.C.,” Moorman said.

Here’s what it looked like before it was taken down.
