Less than a week after announcing that Action Bronson would be headlining its annual Spring Fling concert, the student-run group that invited the rapper is removing him from the setlist for this Saturday’s event.

“We apologize to the GW community for causing distress over the past few days and for attempting to bring an artist who is not consistent with our values of diversity and inclusion,” said the university’s Program Board, which plans such events, in a statement.
Some students took issue with the Program Board, also comprised of students, booking a headliner that one Hatchet editorial called “a blatant misogynist.” Issues with Bronson included since-deleted statements bashing transgender people, his song “Consensual Rape” (which he said he wouldn’t perform at Spring Fling), a music video for “Brunch” that depicts violence against woman, and a lack of apology for the aforementioned actions.
A Change.org petition to remove Bronson from the setlist got nearly 350 signatures, exceeding its goal by more than 100.
Last May, organizers for Toronto’s North By Northeast canceled a scheduled Bronson concert after thousands of people complained.
Former opening act GoldLink will move into the headliner slot, leaving an opening for another local act, the Program Board said.
Bronson has been in D.C. recently for his new Vice food show, Fuck That’s Delicious, where he visited Rose’s Luxury.
Update: Clarified that the Program Board is run by students, not the university’s administration.
