The days of high school students (and other first-time drivers) in D.C. taking a test and hitting the road are just about over.
Beginning May 1, anyone who gets their first license in D.C. will also have to pass a course first, according to the D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles.
In order to “prepare new drivers for the challenges of the road,” any first-time drivers, regardless of age, will have to spend 30 hours in the classroom and eight hours behind the wheel. Those who pass successfully will have six months after training to get their licenses.
All new drivers in Maryland already have to take a course consisting of a minimum of thirty classroom hours and six hours of training behind the wheel. In Virginia, only first timers who are 19 and under are required to take a driver education class.
D.C. residents can take a DMV-approved class in the District, Maryland, or Virginia.
Now how do we mandate that @MD_Driver_in_DC takes it too?
