A police officer with the Metropolitan Police Department has been arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon in an incident that occurred in February.
According to MPD, 46-year-old Michael Minor was off-duty on Saturday, February 20 when he got into an altercation in the middle of the afternoon with another driver on I-295. Both Minor and the complainant stopped and got out of their cars. Minor drew his service weapon, police said, and the other driver left before stopping a second time and calling 911. Minor confronted the other driver and a “physical altercation ensued,” police said. The victim sustained minor injuries.
“The ability to wear the MPD badge and serve in the District is an honor and something we hold sacred,” Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a statement. “To learn that incidents like this have occurred is nothing short of disturbing and only fractures the relationships that we have built in our communities. In light of this officer’s actions, we will continue to hold our members to the highest of standards and remain focused on service, integrity and fairness.”
