Donald J. Trump is returning to our fair District, and it’s not to check in on his forthcoming hotel in the Old Postal Office or get deposed for ongoing legal battles with celebrity chefs. He’s going to explain what precisely it means to “bomb the hell out of ISIS” and “take out their families.”
The newfangled, more serious, general election-minded version of the Republican presidential frontrunner will be in D.C. on Wednesday to give a foreign affairs speech, according to the Wall Street Journal. Trump told the WSJ it will focus on “the relationship between economic and national security.” The speech, which comes after his walloping of competitors in New York on Tuesday, will happen at the National Press Club Mayflower Hotel at noon. The venue change occurred because of “overwhelming interest,” according to the campaign. The event is hosted by the Center for the National Interest.
And expect more speeches from Trump, so many speeches that you’re gonna be sick of speeches, because he’s hiring a speechwriter. That’s right—according to WSJ, the meandering, adjective-filled speeches that we’ve all grown used to will soon give way to a more conventional presentation. That could even include the use of teleprompters, even though Trump has said, “if you’re running for president, you should not be allowed to use a teleprompter.” A speechwriter would not have written that line.
The speechwriter will be based in Trump’s D.C. office.
Updated with information about the time and location of the speech.
