You know, the expired and unwanted prescription ones.
As in past years, the Metropolitan Police Department is once again participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Safe disposal of old meds is important not only for personal safety, but that of the water supply and the health of aquatic animals.
Prescription medications will be accepted at the following locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.:
- First District Station (101 M Street SW)
- First District Sub Station (500 E Street SE)
- Second District Station (3320 Idaho Avenue NW)
- Third District Station (1620 V Street NW)
- Fourth District Station (6001 Georgia Avenue NW)
- Fourth District Sub Station (750 Park Road NW)
- Fifth District Station (1805 Bladensburg Road NE)
- Sixth District Station (100 42nd Street NE)
- Seventh District Station (2455 Alabama Avenue SE)
“When excess prescription opioids go unused, there is a potential for those drugs to be improperly used by teens and others. Robust drug take-back programs help keep these potentially dangerous and addictive drugs off of the streets,” said Attorney General Karl Racine in a release. His office is taking old medications in the lobby at One Judiciary Square (441 4th Street NW).
The University of the District of Columbia and other area police departments are also participating. See the DEA’s website for a full list.
Over the course of 10 similar events, the DEA and partnering groups have taken back more than 5.5 million pounds of pills.
