A man attacked a Metrobus driver in Northeast and hijacked the vehicle this morning, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. The suspect then struck and killed a pedestrian at a gas station.
The bus driver suffered non-life threatening injuries in the three-minute incident, which took place aboard a U6 route to Lincoln Heights. No passengers were injured. Police Chief Cathy Lanier described the suspect as “violent and resistant,” according to the Post.

Facing a spate of assaults on bus drivers, Metro began testing video surveillance on the X2 over the summer. WMATA also included Plexiglass shields on its latest order of buses, and all future orders will include them. The shields aren’t bulletproof, but they provide a barrier and are “spit and drink-proof,” the director of Metrobus planning, Jim Hamre, told DCist in November.
We will update this post as more information becomes available.
