Pat Collins is the kind of television news reporter that makes you feel like the whole enterprise is worthwhile. He never takes himself too seriously, even as he makes sure to learn the small details that give humanity the many victims of violence in the area. And of course, there’s his epic snow coverage.

Today, he celebrates his 30th anniversary at NBC Washington. He started on this day in 1986.

Many of his NBC colleagues used his unique reporting style—showing written-on legal pads to the camera, big gestures, the help of that famous snow stick—in a tribute video.

To my mind, it’s a tie between Aaron Gilchrist and Matt Glassman for best Collins impersonation.

“This is a wonderful business. You learn something every day and you actually help people understand their lives better,” Collins said in a speech to the newsroom.

NBC 4 has compiled some of their favorite Collins pieces.
