Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are two different candidates for president, but many of their most generous individual contributors live in the same regions, including a few in the D.C. area.
According to Wall Street Journal analysis of Federal Election Commission data, New York City zip codes took the top two spots for both Clinton and Trump. But as you go down the list, the DMV starts making some serious appearances.
For D.C., the 20016 zip code came in fourth for individual contributions to Clinton. The Cathedral Heights/Tenleytown/Palisades neighborhood shelled out $948,405. The bordering zip code 20008, which includes Woodley Park, Van Ness, and Forest Hills, was sixth, with $881,500. And 20007, the zip code of Georgetown and Foxhall Crescent, was ninth for Clinton with $772,356. A March analysis found Clinton got ten times more D.C. donor dollars than anyone else running for president.
While none of Trump’s biggest zip codes are coming from within city limits, Bethesda makes the top 10 list for both Clinton and Trump. For the former secretary of state, it’s the 20815 zip code, which houses Chevy Chase and Friendship Village. It comes in seventh, having netted Clinton $871,322. Slightly northwest of that, Bethesda’s 20816 made it to eighth on Trump’s list with $10,450.
(Trump and Clinton have very different numbers because the Republican nominee is just starting to fundraise after somewhat self-funding his primary race.)
Alexandria is even higher on Trump’s list, with the Virginia suburb’s $11,619 in donations landing it sixth.
All 20 of Clinton’s top locations are on the coasts, whereas Trump boasts zip codes in Las Vegas, Dallas, Nashville, Denver and more.
