Three men pleaded not guilty today in the fatal shooting case of an American University graduate. Matthew Shlonsky was killed by a stray bullet in Shaw last year after getting out of a cab to attend a friend’s birthday party.
Marcus King, Andrew Dudley, and Christopher Proctor are now being held without bond, according to William Miller of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District. Judge Robert Morin will proceed over a status hearing for the men, all of whom are from the District, on July 15.
Last August, 23-year-old Shlonsky was caught in the middle of a shootout and a bullet struck him in the back. Six days after the incident, 20-year-old King surrendered himself to D.C. police. He told authorities that he fired a .40-caliber gun at three men after they opened fire on him, according to The Washington Post.
King, along with Dudley, 20, and Proctor, 26, were charged with second-degree murder while armed and assault with a dangerous weapon, among more than 60 other counts related to the shooting spree that day.
A trail date is set for January 17, 2017.
