Two events are shutting down streets in Northwest this weekend—one taking place near Howard University and the other in the Penn Quarter area.
The 4th annual HBCU Alumni 5K Walk/Run is happening on Saturday with participants taking off from 2400 6th Street NW at 8 a.m. As such, the following streets will be closed from approximately 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
- Georgia Avenue, NW from Harvard Street, NW to Barry Place, NW
- W Street, NW from 4th Street to 6th Street, NW
- 6th Street, NW from W Street, NW and Gresham Street, NW
- 5th Street, NW from Gresham Street, NW to Howard Place, NW
- 4th Street, NW from Howard Place, NW to W Street, NW
In addition, the 2016 Giant National Capital BBQ Battle will block several downtown roads throughout the weekend. The following streets will be closed from Friday at 6:30 pm through Sunday at 11:59 p.m., according to MPD.
- Pennsylvania Avenue, NW between 9th and 14th Streets, NW
- 10th Street, NW between E Street, NW and Constitution Avenue, NW
- 11thStreet, NW, between E Street, NW and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
- 12th Street, NW, between E Street, NW and Constitution Avenue, NW
- 13th Street, NW, between E Street, NW and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
