Seasoned crate diggers in the Washington area are privileged to live in a city that has a variety of good record stores clustered within walking distance of each other. Now, prospective vinyl shoppers can add all-you-can-drink booze to their official itinerary.

Co-sponsored by local shops like Som Records, Red Onion, Joint Custody, Smash, and Songbyrd Music House, the first annual Record Store Crawl takes place August 6, with a live performance by Philly’s Good Old War, a bottomless brunch at Songbyrd, discounts at neighborhood stores and limited edition vinyl, like a mystery LP and a Cyndi Lauper 45.

While many record collectors and even shops have mixed feelings about Record Store Day hype, (which sends the world’s limited pressing plants into backlogs filled with what some see as overpriced faux collectibles), this lubricated new event promises to lower the discerning record buyer’s inhibitions enough so they might actually buy that limited edition RSD exclusive Best of Gallagher picture disc.

Washington is one of seven cities in which the beer and vinyl event will be held this summer. Tickets are on sale now for $34.95, which seems steep (the New York City event costs $59.99!) but that gets you booze, discounts, and free vinyl as well as a Domino Records tote bag, an online code for 15 percent off U-Turn Audio’s well-regarded budget turntables, and other goodies.

The DC Record Store Crawl starts at noon on August 6, 2016. Buy tickets here.
