The lockdown at the U.S. Capitol has been lifted after staff and visitors were ordered to shelter in place amid police activity.
According several reports on Twitter, it appeared that someone brought a gun into the building.

U.S. Capitol Police were addressing the situation, tweeted California Congressman Eric Swalwell, adding “God bless them and every officer across America who protects us.”
The Capitol Visitor Center was on lockdown as well.
Last summer, Congressional aide Peter James Boby was arrested when U.S. Capitol Police found a loaded .45 caliber handgun in his vehicle.
