The H Street corridor is swapping a burger spot for a chicken sandwich chain. Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen tweeted today that the former Checkers at 1401 Maryland Avenue NE is slated to become a Chick-fil-A.
The rumors are true. The applications are in at DCRA to build a new Chick-fil-A on the site of the closed Checkers. https://t.co/IRkOu3QYPr

That’s right, “the original chicken sandwich” and one of the best breakfast offerings in the city will be blocks away from the bustling Northeast strip.
The District’s first standalone Chick-fil-A opened in November to a long line in Columbia Heights, as customers sought out the First 100 promotion, which offers free meals for a year. The Atlanta-based chain is looking to open three to five locations in the D.C. during the next five years, according to the Washington Business Journal.
