Not only does Metro have to contend with SafeTrack’s upcoming and ongoing surges, it also still has to verify that previous work is actually complete, according to a report released yesterday by the Federal Transit Administration.
The FTA WMATA Safety Oversight Team found that 34 problem areas are still “open” from the maintenance plan’s first surge between the East Falls Church and Ballston stations and its second surge between the Eastern Market and Minnesota Avenue/Benning Road stations.
According to the report, Metro may have performed maintenance on these areas, but either the FTA has yet to receive written confirmation by WMATA or the areas haven’t been given the stamp of approval by the administration.
DCist reached out to Metro for comment and will update with their response.
Throughout the entire Metrorail system, the FTA found that 507 out of 894 defects, which have been identified since October 2015, are still open. The most issues involve rail transportation and traction power, according to the report.
To keep up with the litany of complaints that the FTA has given Metro in recent months, the administration has developed an online table that tracks tasks that are closed, open, and past due. The interactive table is updated monthly.
