A workspace geared for the community is coming to the U Street Corridor. Unlike other co-working spaces coming to the area, Share Space D.C., is free… with some caveats.

The space will be housed inside of Andy Shallal’s Mulebone, which currently opens for dinner at 5 p.m. during the week. But beginning Tuesday, the lower level of the venue will be open to laptops, and the people who use them, from 8 a.m. until dinnertime.

The Zora Neal Hurston-inspired restaurant established by the Busboys and Poets’ owner changed its identify from Eatonville to Mulebone earlier this year. While the space kept the colorful, artsy vibe of its predecessor, it got a new chef and accompanying menu and placed a pop-up from the vintage shop Nomad Yard Collectiv at its entrance.

With no membership fees, the space will have all of the typical things that co-workers value—reliable wifi, plenty of outlets, a printer and fax machine. It’ll also feature free lectures, workshops, “and other fun stuff,” according to a release from Busboys and Poets.

Tuesday’s grand opening event will offer complimentary coffee. After that though, guests will have to pay to get caffeinated, Mulebone spokesperson AJ Head told DCist. The restaurant is still looking into where they will source the coffee and how much it’ll cost, she says. In addition, guests, who will be enticed by the aroma of southern cooking, can order eats and drinks from an all day brunch menu—food items range from $5 to $12. And no outside food is allowed, Head says. There will also be a daily happy hour.

For people who need some privacy, the upstairs portion of the restaurant will be available for meetings and conferences, also at a cost, Head says. But that price is yet to be determined.

The space will be open to the public Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
