A carnival ride malfunctioned yesterday, causing a woman to fall 40 feet from the ride. The incident took place around 7 p.m. at the Frederick County Fair. The 47-year-old woman was riding the SuperShot, a free fall ride that raises people to the top of a tower then drops them suddenly, according to Fox 5. A hydraulic brake in the ride is supposed to stop the passengers halfway down the ride.

Officials took the 47-year-old woman to the Winchester Medical Center, Fox 5 reports. Her condition is unknown. While authorities are still investigating, the Shenandoah Valley Fire Department attributed the accident to a broken cable.
