Update 2: Three firefighters were transported to the hospital, two for reasons related to the heat, and twelve people have been displaced from the apartment building, FEMS said.
Update 1: FEMS says that the fire has spread to an adjacent home and additional resources have been called in. A dog was also badly burned and has been taken to a local vet.

Authorities are urging people to stay away from 12th and N Streets NW as firefighters battle a two-alarm blaze atop an apartment building. No injuries have been reported as of now, according to D.C. Fire and EMS.
The fire has sent plumes of smoke in the air that is visible from several miles away.
Firefighters are are working on containing the flames and ensuring it doesn’t spread to the building next door, FEMS said. The agency announced that they have suppressed heavy fire and are renewing their indoor attack.
D.C. Police have closed off the following roads: 12th Street NW, between O and N; 13th Street NW at M; and 11th Street NW at N.
