A man and his goat were spotted in the D.C. region over the weekend. Steve Wescott, who began a cross-country walk from Seattle, Washington to New York City in May 2012, was seen with his Alpine goat in Rockville, Md. and on Connecticut Avenue NW.

Wescott’s 3,800-mile journey was prompted by a calling he received from God in 2010, according to his website. He’s raising money and awareness for a nonprofit in Kenya founded by his best friend, a missionary in Nairobi.
Before starting the walk, Wescott searched for “a four-legged friend who would make the perfect traveling companion.” After a veterinarian advised that his “dog of destiny” was too injured for the journey, he found that friend in the form of an Alpine/Boer goat named LeeRoy Brown, who traveled with Wescott until he passed away from an illness last October in Springfield, Ohio. Now, he’s walking with a goat named Miles, and the pair are carrying LeeRoy’s ashes with them so that he still makes it to the finish line in New York, according to WUSA 9.
