Update: Metro has restored service between Franconia and King Street.

Original: Metro has suspended rail service on the Blue Line between King Street and Franconia-Springfield stations due to burning debris on the tracks outside Van Dorn Street.

The Alexandria and Fairfax fire departments have responded to the “brushfire” and are currently on the scene.

“The report was that the fire was only on one track,” says Metro spokesperson Morgan Dye. “But the fire department requested we turn off power on both tracks,” which explains why Metro has suspended service rather than single-track.

Currently, Blue Line trains are either ending at National Airport or following the Yellow Line to Huntington. There is a bus shuttle in the stead of the suspended portion of the Blue Line.

Dye did not have an estimate as to when the train service would be restored.

The suspended Blue Line comes as SafeTrack work on the Red Line is causing single tracking between Takoma and Silver Spring.
