Two people have died after a massive fire and explosion at an apartment complex in Silver Spring, WJLA reports, and authorities are still searching for some residents. The incident also sent more than two dozen people to the hospital and displaced nearly one hundred residents.
“One of the fire stations about a mile away felt the explosion just before midnight, prior to getting the 911 dispatch to the structure,” Chief Scott Goldstein of the Montgomery County Fire Department said at a press conference this morning.
The incident impacted two four-level buildings at the Flower Branch Apartments on Piney Branch Road. A portion of one of the structures has collapsed. The buildings had 28 units combined, which housed about 90 residents.

Police and canines are were initially searching for five to seven people, Goldstein said. And at least 30 people, including three firefighters, were taken to the hospital. The victims are suffering from burns, abrasions, broken bones, smoke inhalation, and other injuries.
Residents are currently being sheltered at a local community center and the Red Cross is providing resources, he said.
The Razoo Foundation has also launched a fundraising campaign to benefit residents through the non profit Montgomery Housing Partners.
Officials have yet to determine a cause.
