DCist is looking to expand our coverage of the city’s food scene, and we’re paying.

We’re looking for freelance writers who are passionate about food and take a creative and discerning approach to covering the local restaurant scene. We’re interested in tackling everything from the hole-in-the-wall gems run by mom and pop to buzzy restaurants with prix fixe menus. We’re interested in writers who can break food and drink news, contribute to our weekly “Best Of D.C.” lists, or craft unique features. We want original, compelling, heartbreaking, funny, enraging, enlightening work, written clearly and with an eye toward stories that cut through the dull hum of the internet.

We’re also interested in hiring photographers with experience shooting food.

Please send a brief email with the subject line “DCist food” with a summary of your writing experience and links to five of your best food, drink, or other relevant writing clips to food@dcist.com. If you have a few pitches for our food section, even better. Pay depends on experience, quality, and length. No need to follow up: if we’re interested, you’ll hear from us. No attachments, please.
