Welcome to our all new event guide (R.I.P. About Tonight). Events will now be posted twice a week. Monday’s post will cover weekday events, and Thursday’s will cover weekend events.
MONDAY, AUGUST 22
NEW BEER: Modern Times Brewery—aka that San Diego brewery with a giant mural of Michael Jackson and Bubbles—gets its official D.C. debut. ChurchKey will have 13 beers available by the glass and in 4 oz. tasting pours. Selections include Blazing World, an amber ale with Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic & Simcoe hops, Mega Black House, an imperial oatmeal stout with coffee, and two gose varieties (which evidently are all the rage). 5 p.m. No admission fee.
HAMILTON: There’s a new outlet for our collective Hamilton obsession, and it comes in the form of a work of historical fiction: Elizabeth Cobbs’ The Hamilton Affair. Although fictionalized, the book stays true to the historical facts—and tells the founding father’s story by alternating between Hamilton and Elizabeth’s perspectives. Cobbs will discuss the book at Politics and Prose with Ruth Tam, a producer with The Kojo Nnamdi Show, as part of WAMU’s In Your Bookstore Series. 7 p.m. FREE
BURLESQUE AS BENEFIT: If you’re having Olympics withdrawal, Summer Hummer V: Champions may provide a temporary cure. More money means more skin in the burlesque-style variety show that benefits theatreWashington’s Taking Care of Our Own. Funds from the “hottest, sweatiest, most provocative summer tradition,” will go to theater professionals in times of need. Signature Theatre. 9:30 p.m. $35
