Human poop in a park: it’s gross and a health hazard. But as it turns out, it’s also “not uncommon,” according to the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department.
We told you earlier this week about the so-called “serial pooper” in Arlington. Human crap keeps showing up at the Ft. Barnard Park playground, right by the play equipment and covered with a shirt “so that some unsuspecting child or parent can pick it up and get a fecal surprise,” a resident wrote in a letter published by ARLnow.
This morning, residents found more of the same at the playground, ARLnow reports. “This time it was not covered by a shirt, but a pile of human feces was found on the playground by some benches,” a resident told them. “I guess this makes him the very brazen serial pooper.”
When the discovery was made, county landscapers were already at the park. The Arlington Department of Parks and Recreation confirmed that it cleaned up the latest waste.
In bullet points shared with ARLnow, the parks department writes that “as surprising as it may sound, it is not uncommon to find human waste in a park.” The only thing that makes the Ft. Barnard occurrences more notable is that “someone puts a t-shirt on top of it.” As the instances continue, “park maintenance staff started pro-active check-ins at the park.” We’ve reached out for further details, and will update when we hear back.
D.C. Parks and Recreation declined to comment on whether this was an issue in the District as well.
