FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9

FREAKS AND GREEKS: Brightest Young Things’ latest after hours party highlights the National Geographic Museum’s The Greek exhibition. In addition to access to the exhibition, your ticket will also get you access to “hot jamz and vibes” from five DJ sets, lightning talks with National Geographic explorers, themed activities including “greek goddess crown” making, and non-themed activities including giant flip cup beer bong and 3D movies about pandas, because pandas! 8 p.m. $25-30

THROWING SHADE: Join Bryan Safi and Erin Gibson for “infotainment at its best” as they bring you their weekly podcast Throwing Shade live from the Howard Theatre. Covering headlines in politics and pop culture, the duo can “jump from True Detective to The Bachelor and in one breath explain how Drake is the Loretta Lynn of the R&B world.” 8 p.m. $20

FESTIVALS: The GO Independent International Film Festival (Angelika Pop-Up at Union Market), DC Adventure Film Festival (Navy Heritage Center’s Burke Theater), and Sonic Circuits Festival, all kick off on Friday. $5-20

POETRY AND ART: At the first Imagistic in Washington, D.C, seven writers will read pieces of “flash fiction of up to 1,000 words,” inspired by images from seven artists. Hillyer Art Space. 7:30-10 p.m. FREE>



SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10

TABLETOP GAMES: WashingCon, a tabletop gaming convention, first debuted last year, and now it’s back with twice the gaming fun. This year, WashingCon is a two-day event held at the Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center (free shuttles will be provided from Foggy Bottom). Featured activities include a Munchkin tournament, role-playing games, and an LCG lounge featuring Netrunner, A Game of Thrones, 40K Conquest, and more. $40

JAZZ FESTIVAL: The Rosslyn Jazz Fest returns, bringing you six hours of jazz at Gateway Park. The festival will feature musicians from D.C., New Orleans, and Austin, plus a Jazz Art Jam where two artists and three poets will create a live interpretation of “the music, the scene, and the energy of the Festival.” 1 p.m.-7 p.m. FREE

ARTS & MUSIC FESTIVAL: Celebrate everything artistic about D.C. at the 202 Arts & Music Festival. The all-day event will includes live performances, art exhibitions, interactive workshops, a late-night dance party, and more. Canal Park. 11 a.m. FREE

ANNIVERSARY PARTY: Via Umbria celebrates its two year anniversary with an open house featuring tastings and specialty cocktails. There will also be a raffle that gives you the chance to win dinners, a Cheese of the Month Club membership, gift baskets, ceramics, olive oils, and more. 11 a.m.-7 p.m. FREE

BURLESQUE: Burlesque themes really have no limits. Last week there was stripping Pokemon, and this week Black Market Burlesque brings you Dr. Phil (Lander)’s Celebrity Rehab! featuring the cases of Judy Garland, Lady Gaga, Liza Minnelli, Marlene Dietrich, and Prince. SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11

ADAMS MORGAN: Adams Morgan Day, (which is now 100% volunteer lead), is back. Check out live music, the arts & crafts and “fix anything” stations, visual art, and more. Most events will be held along 18th Street NW and Columbia Road. 12-6 p.m. FREE

BLACK CAT: Help Black Cat celebrate their 23rd anniversary by taking advantage of free games, pinball, popcorn, and DJs. 7:30 p.m. FREE

ALEXANDRE DUMAS: He’s known for his historical novels The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo, but did you know that Alexandre Dumas was also a “world-class gourmet”? At Dinner with Dumas, you’ll enjoy food, wine, and readings inspired by the “culinary life and writings” of Alexandre Dumas. Upshur Street Books. 7-9 p.m. $50
