Another D.C. restaurant has been bitten by the coworking bug. Indique, an Indian spot in Cleveland Park, has launched a workspace program called Chai + Wifi.
Originally closed during weekday lunch hours, Indique now operates the program from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The restaurant says its “experiment in co-working and community” is an affordable place where people can gather and “get stuff done in Cleveland Park.”
The idea was born out of the owners’ own need to work outside of the home. They ended up at the restaurant because paying for a desk elsewhere was too pricey and working at coffee shops meant they would contend with seating shortages, shoddy wifi, and loitering assumptions. “A few months in, we started thinking that some friends and neighbors may want to come work with us as well,” they write on their website.
The neighborhood amenity comes as the Cleveland Park Library, which sits less than two blocks from the restaurant, is set to close for renovations on October 8 (part of D.C. Public Library’s ongoing restoration effort of its buildings).
For a limited time, membership at Chai + Wifi is priced at $35 per month, which includes unlimited masala chai and coffee, in addition to typical remote working necessities like “outlets for days.” In addition to the monthly pass, there’s also a 4-day pass for $25, a 1-week trial for $15, and a one-day pass for $10. And guests can “chai it out” once for free. Guests can opt to purchase lunch on Fridays.
Mulebone, which also previously didn’t open until the evening, also launched a free daytime coworking offering over the summer where guests can order food and drinks from an all-day bunch menu, among other amenities.
