This weekend’s agenda includes pizza, popcorn, comedy, and plenty of spooks.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28
HALLOWEEN, PART 1: If you haven’t already started celebrating Halloween, you’ll have endless opportunities to do so this weekend. On Friday, you can choose between a live radio show featuring stories about ghosts, witches, and yoga, (Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 7-10 p.m., $15), a film screening about a child murderer (Heurich House Museum, 6-9 p.m. $20) a brewery bash featuring live music, a scavenger hunt, and contest for the best beer themed costume (Port City Brewing Company, 3-10 p.m., free admission, additional cost for tours), a wordless production of Dante’s Inferno and a Vampire’s Ball after-party (Synetic Theater, 8 p.m. $25-70), plus a masquerade ball for all the single folk (Mission, 7-10 p.m, $15-use promo code “DCIST” for a discount equal to one Tecate).
COMEDY FESTIVAL, PART 1: The Brightest Young Things Bentzen Ball Comedy Festival, curated by Tig Notaro, is back October 27-30. Friday’s schedule of events includes a performance by “alt-cabaret provocateur” Bridget Everett, with special guests Michael Ian Black, Melissa Villasenor, and Jason Weems (Lincoln Theatre, 8 p.m. $30) and Picture This!, the show where comedians’ jokes are drawn live (Millennium Stage at The Kennedy Center, 6 p.m, ticket distribution begins at 5 p.m. FREE).
BLOCK PARTIES: Two seasonal series host their last events of the season this Friday. In D.C., the last MarketSW will feature TimberPizza’s first appearance at the market, an outdoor bar, plus nearly 30 vendors selling jewelry, antiques, paintings, and more. (“The Lot” at Waterfront Station, 4th & M Streets, SW. 5-10 p.m. FREE). In Virginia, the City of Fairfax hosts its last Rock the Block, featuring a performance by Gonzo’s Nose, covering hits from the 80’s to today. Plus, there will be a bonus after dark screening of Ghostbusters! (Old Town Square, 3999 University Drive, Fairfax, VA, 6:30 p.m. FREE).
REEL TIME: Now in its fifth year, Reel Time at GALA offers a little something for everyone—dramas, comedies, documentaries, and even the 1943 Mexican classic Flor Silvestre. DCist previewed some of the films in this year’s festival, which runs through Sunday. (GALA Hispanic Theatre. Tickets are available online).

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29
HALLOWEEN, PART 2: The Halloween weekend continues with an amputation demonstration (Clara Barton Museum, 4-6 p.m., $30) and a Stranger Things themed party, features prizes for the best horror costume, best 80’s costume, and best 80’s horror costume, plus a mummy wrapping contest, screaming contest, and more. (Fantom Comics, 7 p.m.-1 a.m., $10)
COMEDY FESTIVAL, PART 2: As part of the Bentzen Ball Comedy Festival, BYT has joined forces with Nando’s Peri Peri to bring you an Election Nightmare Comedy Show. The late-night Saturday show is FREE with the purchase of any item at Nando’s. Your receipt will list a code, whether you order a side of fries or a chicken platter, and each code is good for admission for two (Lincoln Theatre, 9-11:59 p.m.)
POPCORN PARTY: Craving salty caramel popcorn, cookies and cream popcorn, or citrus habanero popcorn? No longer do you have to stalk Stella*s Popkern on Twitter, praying the food truck makes its way toward you. The gourmet popcorn can now be found in Petworth at Stella*s Popkern’s first storefront location. At their grand opening party, the first 100 guests will receive a free small bag of popcorn. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30
HALLOWEEN, PART 3: The last of your Halloween fix comes in the form of a Morning Masquerade (U Street Music Hall, 12.-2 p.m. $25), Birds screening (Suns Cinema, 8 p.m. $5), and scary, gross, and disastrous stories (The Howard Theatre, 7 p.m. $20-25).
PIZZA AND PING PONG PARTY: Celebrate ten years of Comet Ping Pong at their 10 Year Anniversary Party. The evening festivities will include complimentary food and drink, live music, a s’more station, and more. You must stop by Comet Ping Pong before Sunday for details about how to RSVP. (5-9 p.m., FREE)
HOMEBREWERS: Support the local homebrewing community at DC Homebrewer’s 5th Annual BBQ Fundraiser. Enjoy beer brewed by your neighbors along with a plate of barbecue from Smoke & Barrel. Plus, test your luck in the raffle and silent auction. (3 Stars Brewing Company, 1-4 p.m. $20)
