This month brings several high-profile events to the area, including the return of some old favorites.
FOTOWEEKDC. Opens Friday, November 11 from 7:30 to 11 p.m., and runs until November 20. Opening party costs $45 if purchased by November 5, after which prices increase. Check event listings for details on all events and exhibits.
Headquarters for this citywide celebration of photography, now in its ninth year, are at the National Geographic Museum, but events and exhibits will be held throughout the area. This year’s FotoWeekDC features over 150 exhibits, programs, and events at venues that include the Mexican Cultural Institute, Artists Proof Gallery, Studio Gallery, Hillyer Arts Space, and more. Opening night features an open bar, small bites, photo booths, tunes spun by DJ Prince Paul, and early access to the photo exhibits at National Geographic.

SEE/CHANGE VIDEO ART INSTALLATION @ storefronts along lower Georgia Avenue. November 12 to 20. (Free)
Pay attention to the vacant storefronts as you stroll along Georgia Avenue NW in the Park View and Pleasant Plains neighborhoods this month. Projected video portraits of old and new residents and business owners across the racial and socioeconomic spectrum will shed light on the effects of revitalization in the area.
MID CITY ARTISTS OPEN STUDIOS. November 5 and 6. (Free)
This weekend, Mid City Artists open their studios in Logan Circle, Shaw, and Dupont Circle. See how artists have crafted their working spaces in offices, retail spaces, carriage houses, and apartments; chat with the artists about their work; and enjoy refreshments. ACT UP! @ The Newseum. Tuesday, November 15 at 7 p.m. General admission $40, admission plus membership, $75.
Art Soiree collaborates with Newseum for their last Newseum Night of the year. There’ll be a step performance by Dem’ Raider Boyz Step Squad, improv haikus, glow-in-the-dark silent disco, live mural painting, and art installations from D.C. artists. Enjoy an open beer and wine bar, a Flying Dog beer tasting session, and finger foods. The CEO of Flying Dog will chat about vulgarity in advertising, and Newseum curators will give gallery talks throughout the evening.

The massive unjuried exhibition Artomatic opens in Montgomery County this year, just off the Montrose Road exit of I-270. More than 350 local artists are taking part in this showcase for visual work, music, performance, and film. Check the event schedule for workshops, tours, seminars, and other events.
