BEERTOWN: Tonight is your last chance to participate in a Beertown town hall meeting. Help the leaders of Beertown decide which items should remain, which items should be removed, and which items should be added to their time capsule. MUSIC TRIVIA: Songbyrd’s bi-monthly Music Trivia night returns tonight, so you have until 7:30 p.m. to brush up on your music knowledge. Using Wikipedia as your source of knowledge is highly recommended. FREE
MEXICAN AND CANADIAN SPIRITS: On the eve of the 2016 presidential election, Closed Sessions and Royal Knights want you to forget about Trump and Hillary, and focus on more important things—like spirits. The Royal’s Lee Charles Carrell and Service Bar’s Chad Lee will craft cocktails highlighting Mexican and Canadian spirits so you can make the most informed decision about which border is better to cross. Sixth Engine’s Kyle Bailey and The Royal’s Anna Miller will also bring you border-inspired dishes like unagi poutine and bologna tacos. PRE-ELECTION FESTIVITIES: If you don’t want to dedicate your whole night to the election results, but still want to stay on theme, you can watch a screening of The Purge: Election Year (Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library – Central Library, 6 p.m., FREE), or sport your best pantsuit or super-heroine costume in a fundraiser for Collective Action for Safe Spaces (Fantom Comics, 7-9 p.m. FREE, cash donations accepted)
ELECTION WATCH: Pretty much every place with a TV will be an “election watch party,” but a few of the more offbeat events around town include those with thumb wrestling (DC9, 7 p.m. FREE), cardboard cutouts of the candidates for all the selfies you desire (Sixth & I, 7:30 p.m., $10), and cardboard cutouts of Trump for all the dart chucking you desire (El Rey, 5 p.m.-12 a.m. FREE). IMPROV FESTIVAL: The Fourth Annual District Improv Festival returns with four days of long-form improvisation Nov 9-12, and both of Wednesday’s shows are FREE! The first show features three groups from D.C., and the second show features groups from D.C., Baltimore, and Philadelphia. (Source, 7:30-9 p.m. and/or 9:30-11 p.m.)
CHAMPAGNE TASTING: D.C.’s first Champagne Week kicked off on Sunday at Proof. Things continue on Wednesday with a Grand Tasting featuring eight champagne producers showcasing three cuvees each. (O’Byrne Gallery, 6-8 p.m. *VIP entry begins at 5 p.m. $80-125)
MOVIE SCIENCE: Join Ann Merchant, the deputy executive director for communications at the National Academy of Sciences, for a discussion on how the Science & Entertainment Exchange is working to bring more science to films like Captain America, Frozen, and Battleship. SHAKESPEAREAN DEATHS: Explore the special effects used to act out Shakespearean deaths via stabbing, poisoning, hanging, baking, swallowing, and more. Smithsonian Associates’ Death by Shakespeare: Final Exits features Carol Ann Lloyd-Stanger, the visitor education programs manager at the Folger Shakespeare Library, discussing three Shakespeare tragedies, and actor and dramaturge Cam Magee acting out complex death scenes with a stage of actors.
