After Washingtonians and protesters in cities across the country spent yesterday shouting “not my president” in the streets and outside of Trump properties, the transition to America’s new reality continued today with a customary welcome to the White House from the president to the president-elect.
President-elect Donald Trump, his wife, and aides arrived this morning through the South Lawn entrance, as far away from the media as possible.
As was his practice as a candidate, Trump traveled without a pool of journalists, breaking a longstanding tradition whereby reporters keep close watch on the president-elect’s actions. From the Associated Press:
“Trump’s flouting of press access was one of his first public decisions since his election Tuesday…. News organizations had for weeks tried to coordinate a pool of journalists who could begin to travel with Trump immediately after Election Day if he won election. But his campaign did not cooperate with those requests and his senior advisers refused Wednesday, the day after the election, to discuss any such press arrangements.”
The White House pool remained gathered outside in an attempt to witness this darkly historic event.

On the other side of the fence, some are protesting as a handful of pro-Trump people have come out to show support for the soon-to-be president.

While President Barack Obama called Trump “uniquely unqualified to hold this job” just a few days ago, he pledged yesterday to do everything in his power to ensure “the next president is successful.”
Chief of staff Denis McDonough was seen walking near the Rose Garden with Jared Kushner and other Trump aides, including Dan Scavino, according to a White House pool report.
