As part of a four-year effort to improve the restaurant and retail options at area airports, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced today that a Washington Football Team-themed restaurant at Dulles and a Chik-fil-A at National will be among the latest round of new offerings.

The “Burgundy & Gold Club” will feature a menu “similar to what you would find in a sports bar,” MWAA spokeswoman Kimberly Gibbs tells DCist. It will be operated by airport food-service company HMS Host, which also runs a Cowboys-themed restaurant at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and a Seahawks-themed restaurant at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (both of which use the teams’ names).

The restaurant will also feature an exhibit that focuses on the the Washington Football Team’s eight decades of history in the region. “Having a presence at Dulles International Airport—a premiere gateway to the Capital Region—is a natural fit,” said Terry Bateman, an executive vice president with the team.

It isn’t even the only Washington Football Team-themed restaurant in the area. Hail & Hog is located about 10 minutes from Dulles in Ashburn, Virginia (where the team’s headquarters and practice facility are both located). According to a Washington Post food critic, though, the food is just as disappointing as the team.

Loudoun County is frequently floated as the most likely place to lure the team after its lease at FedEx Field expires in 2027. And Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe has said he is in “serious negotiations” about the team moving. But Donald Trump’s election has renewed the chances that the team might return to D.C.

The current head of the Department of the Interior has said she wouldn’t allow the team to return to the federally owned RFK site while the racist name remains in place, but with potential successors including the likes of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, that is likely to change.

And though Mayor Muriel Bowser has denounced the name, EventsDC has already been seriously considering how the site could be redeveloped with a football team on site.

Meanwhile, MWAA also announced a Pei Wei and a second Wolfgang Puck restaurant will be among the more than 120 new offerings that have been added to the two airports in the past few years—local favorites &pizza, Taylor Gourmet, and Ben’s Chili Bowl among them.
