Police found a woman outside suffering from burn wounds in Trinidad early this morning. She was located on the 1200 block of Holbrook Street NE around 3:30 a.m., according to Aquita Brown, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Department.

The incident began when the woman’s wig caught fire, Fox 5 reports. She suffered injuries to her face and upper body, according to NBC Washington, which reports she was first sighted by a man delivering newspapers.

The case appears to be accidental, Brown said, adding that the woman is in critical condition.

MPD’s violent crimes branch is investigating the incident.
