In another final tradition this holiday season, the Obama family received a horse-drawn Christmas tree delivery at the White House this morning.
First Lady Michelle Obama came out of her home with her nephews, Austin and Aaron Robinson. “These are our replacement kids,” Mrs. Obama joked. “This is what happens when you get teenagers, one’s asleep—these two are up. This is what we got now.” The boys also joined President Barack Obama at the annual Turkey Pardon ceremony on Wednesday.
After the First Lady announced “Christmas begins, the holidays start,” she noted that it is her “last one [and] we’re excited about it.”
This year’s White House Christmas Tree is a 19-foot Douglas Fir donated by a farm in Pennsylvania. It’ll be on display in the Blue Room.
Dave and Mary Vander Velden of Wisconsin presented the tree to First Lady Obama as the winners of the 2016 National Christmas Tree Association’s national tree contest.
