Vincent Orange, fighting Kwame Brown for Gray’s seat, went with a smaller Cadillac SUV than his competitor. What, he couldn’t afford an orange paint job?

An electrician’s apprentice was frightened after finding two nooses at The Wharf construction site in Southwest last week.

Terrell Powell told Fox 5 News that he found one noose hanging over a doorway and another draped over a ladder on November 28. “There are several black people that work there but I feel like I was being targeted because what are the chances that one black man [is] going to find two nooses on the same day on the same job?” Powell told FOX 5’s Paul Wagner. Powell also added that he’d previously encountered no trouble on the job.

Clark Construction Group LLC, which runs the development, released a statement that was obtained by Fox 5 News and The Washington Post. The company is “committed to maintaining a work environment that respects all employees and does not tolerate any action of this type on its projects,” Matt Haas, the company’s vice president, said in the statement.

Haas said that after an investigation, company officials found that a subcontractor employee was “involved in the incident,” and he was immediately fired from the project. Additionally, company management held a series of meetings with job site personnel to “underscore Clark’s zero tolerance policy for such action, which will result in immediate termination,” Haas continued.

Powell quit his job on the project after finding the nooses because his supervisor didn’t initially seem to take the incident seriously and “was only concerned about getting back to work,” according to Fox 5 News.
