A five-year-old super hero from Owing’s Mills, Md. is making his rounds in the District today.
As part of the Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic’s programming, Kaheem, who’s been diagnosed with a chronic myeloid leukemia, is fulfilling his dream of being a super hero and saving people from “bad guys” in the city.
After being referred to the foundation by a hospital social worker, Kaheem told officials how much he admired firefighters, police officers, and others who are hired to keep communities safe.
This morning, he suited up in a custom green suit, red cape, and mask, drank a “magic potion,” and talked with broadcasters from Fox 5 News before hitting the streets.
One of his first missions was saving Santa on the Capital Wheel at the National Harbor. He then braved the waters on a D.C. Fire and EMS boat and solved a mystery for House Speaker Paul Ryan at the Capitol. Later today he’ll be at the National Theatre, among other places.
People can follow his daylong journey using the hashtags #SuperKaheem and #KaheemSavesDC on Twitter, where he’s being cheered on by everyone from Mayor Muriel Bowser and Ward 3 Councilmember Mary Cheh to Washington Wizards and Baltimore Ravens players.
