A video of a woman impressively belting out “O Holy Night” at a D.C. metro station has gone viral.
On Facebook, it has more than 300,000 views, 7,700 shares, and 1,100 comments—many of which describe her impromptu performance as beautiful and amazing. One person said that she should be singing at the White House, while another person invited her to join her church’s play because “we need you.”
Tymara Walker, a professional singer from Las Vegas, told The Washington Post that after years of hardship, “this is the first Christmas I’m in a position that feels like a fresh start,” and that’s why she decided to sing at Union Station on December 3. She was backed up with vocals by her mother, sister, and friend.
Walker, who grew up singing in church, was in the area for a performance in Northern Virginia, according to The Post. Her resume includes two years performing as a background singer for Gladys Knight, and she’s currently an on-call performer for the Michael Jackson ONE Cirque Du Soleil show in Vegas.
Recalling the performance in D.C., Walker said that “people started to clap and cheer… everyone was smiling. One lady was wiping tears. It was really beautiful.”
