It wasn’t even clear that Metro would be open past midnight on New Year’s, much less free. But once again, revelers will be able to hop on the train (or bus) at no charge.
This is the second year that Metro has partnered with Miller Lite Free Rides for the complimentary service.
Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld announced earlier this month that Metro will stay open until 3 a.m. for New Year’s Eve, breaking his moratorium on extended hours during the SafeTrack program. There also won’t be any Metrorail track work during Christmas and New Year’s weekends.
Additional Metro Transit Police officers will be on duty on New Year’s Eve, and Metro is encouraging riders to be responsible. So if, for example, you’re “unable to maintain balance,” should consider choosing an alternate means of transportation.
