Officials have arrested a D.C. man who they say made false bomb threats against Union Station, Metrorail, and an area in the vicinity of the White House.

U.S. Fire Marshals arrested James Cherry on Monday in D.C., according to Simone Bledsoe, a spokesperson for D.C. federal court. He’s expected to appear before a judge this afternoon.

Cherry is accused of threatening and conveying false information concerning the use of an explosion and threatening a railroad carrier or equipment, Bledsoe says.

In July, Cherry called 911 claiming that bombs were placed “three blocks away” at a building on the 1800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue NW, a space that includes the White House and the World Bank, according to court documents obtained by NBC Washington, which first reported Cherry’s arrest.

A couple days later, Cherry called in a bomb threat that caused an evacuation at Union Station and delays of Amtrak, MARC, and VRE trains, according to NBC. Prosecutors allege that Cherry told the operator, “there are eight bombs, eight bombs at Union Station set to go off.”

In the documents, prosecutors said Cherry acknowledged making a bomb threat against Metrorail’s McPherson Square station, as well.

The FBI linked Cherry to a cellphone number that was associated with being used to make the threats, according to the documents. Prosecutors said he “made the false bomb threats for his own personal entertainment, just to see the reaction.”
