This weekend, we bid farewell to 2016 and look ahead to the next 12 months. New Year’s Eve celebrations of all sorts dominate the weekend’s food events, and we rounded up some free (or almost free) party options happening around town. The rest of the week ahead offers some noteworthy food and drink events to hit up once the partying dies out.

This week’s food events

A New Year’s Eve pregame

New Year’s Eve takes stamina, and Slipstream (1333 14th St. NW) has guests covered this Saturday. Swing by from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for its “warm up” party. Those in need of a jolt and a buzz can purchase an unlimited champagne and coffee package for $20.17. All coffee cocktails will be $8 and there will be snacks to much on, including cheese puffs ($6) and roasted cashews ($4). It’s perfect fuel for an upcoming party or an early-evening.

Welcome 2017 with late-night ramen

Bantam King (501 G St. NW) wants to make the first meal of 2017 count. It’s opening up from midnight to 4 a.m. on Sunday with a menu of chicken ramen bowls, gyoza, rice with chicken drippings, and a special punch. It’s all in the spirit of Toshikosh, the Japanese tradition of eating noodles to welcome in the new year. And sopping up a night of drinking.

Beefsteak burger hiatus

Fans of José Andrés fast-casual Beefsteak (multiple locations) have until the end of the year to grab its tasty tomato burger ($4.99) and satisfy any remaining cravings before winter pulls it off the menu. The restaurant promises that its sandwich, which uses tomato, pickled red onions, sprouts, and caper-herb mayo, will return with the warmer weather.

Beat the beer clock in Georgetown

The monthly Monday night beer club at Pizzeria Paradiso Georgetown (3282 M St. NW) always offer something unique for beer lovers. On January 2, it’s tapping a new beer each hour from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. with the respective beer pouring for 50 percent off during its hour. The lineup includes Boulevard Collaboration No. 6, Wicked Week Dark Age, Oskar Blues Barrel Aged TenFidy and De Dolle Stille Nacht 2014.

A D.C. spin on Philly pizza

Philadelphia import Pizzeria Vetri (2221 14th St. NW) is getting some local flavor this month, as chef Mark Vetri welcomes a guest creation from chef Marjorie Meek-Bradley (Smoked & Stacked). Her pie is called the DC Rising and is topped with roasted peppers and onions, cheddar and jack cheese, half smoke meat, and crispy shallot rings. It will be available from January 5 through the 15.

Plan ahead
