TUESDAY, JANUARY 3

FREE DANCE CLASS: Dance fitness enthusiasts will be treated to five free classes at The Kennedy Center Millennium Stage this month. The first is a Zumba class, presented by the Joy of Motion Dance Center. (6 p.m. FREE)

INTO THE WOODS: Fiasco Theater’s reinvention of Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning musical Into the Woods ends its run at The Kennedy Center this Sunday. Don’t miss your chance to see one of the final eight performances. (8 p.m. $49.00 – $175.00)

THE OZONE LAYER: Catch a screening of the 2012 documentary Shattered Sky, the story of how America led the world to solve the ozone crisis. (Suns Cinema, 8 p.m. FREE)

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 4

THEATER PREVIEWS: Tonight begins the first of four preview performances of Mosaic Theatre Company’s production of Charm, inspired by the the true story of Miss Gloria Allen and her Charm School class at the Center on Halsted in Chicago. Follow Mama Darleena Andrews as she teaches etiquette in an LGBTQ organization known as The Center. (Atlas Center for the Performing Arts, 8 p.m. $10-30)

BEHIND THE SCENES THEATER: Get an insider’s look at the production of Wicked in this lively discussion and Q&A with Wicked company members. (The Kennedy Center-Terrace Gallery, 5 p.m. $12)

MUSICAL STORIES: Radio personality Cerphe Colwell, currently a DJ with Music Planet Radio, looks back at nearly fifty years in radio to share the stories of the many musicians he’s known, and to recount his experiences at WAVA, DC101, and WJFK. (Politics and Prose, 7 p.m. FREE)

THURSDAY, JANUARY 5

TERRARIUM MAKING: : Start the New Year by learning some new skills with Miss Pixie’s Furnishings & Whatnot and Logan Hardware. The two 14th Street stores have partnered up to bring year a new monthly series, MidCity Mad Crafters. This month, take your pick between a vintage container from Miss Pixies or a new one from Logan Hardware, then build your own terrarium. Supplies, sips, and bites will all be provided. (Miss Pixie’s Furnishings & whatnot, 7:15-8:30 p.m. $35)

COMEDY: Hear everyday things get explained by scientific phenomena when “scientist-turned-comedian” Tim Lee performs at The Atlas Center for the Performing Arts. (7:30 p.m. $10-40, Friday and Saturday performances also available)

NSO IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD: Tonight, the weeklong initiative NSO In Your Neighborhood arrives at the Hill Center at the Old Naval Hospital, featuring a performance by five members of the orchestra’s woodwind section. The initiative provides free performances and educational activities, including full orchestra concerts, in-school visits, and instrument petting zoos, to neighborhoods throughout the D.C. area. WINE TASTING: Unite with (and learn from) your fellow wine lovers as you taste eight California wines in the mid-tier price point of $30-$70. This is the first of three classes to be held this January (the other two will cover Tuscany and Champagne). (Cork & Fork DC, 7:30-9:00 p.m. $45)
