It’s just about that time of year to bare your wintery legs on the Metro, if you so choose. That’s right, the No Pants Metro Ride returns to D.C. this Sunday.
“Act as if it’s any other day. You just happen to be without pants,” says the event invitation. “For newcomers wondering ‘Why?’ we instead ask ‘Why not?'”
Organized locally by Capitol Improv, participants are meeting at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Hancock Park, outside of the L’Enfant Metro station. After a short briefing, they’ll head underground to shed themselves of their pants and ride the rail system.
While people can take off their bottoms before entering the train, organizers write that, “most will tend to depants as soon as they board their first train … especially because those initial reactions from fellow passengers are the best part.” They also warn to be wary of weekend track work and delays, especially when your gams are loose at an outdoor station.
The National Weather Service forecasts that Sunday will be “mostly sunny, with a high near 31.”
The event made its District debut in 2008, after Improv Everywhere first staged a no pants subway ride in New York City in 2002, and the idea has spread to dozens of cities around the world.
Previous DCist editors have not given any slack to those who ride the Metro without slacks, but hey, as long as your undies are clean, take whatever pleasure you can in this cruel, cruel world.
