Two puppies who hail from the District are joining 76 other dogs in Puppy Bowl XIII.

Seven-month-olds Zoey, an Australian cattle dog mix, and Burr, a puggle, come from Kalorama-based City Dogs Rescue, an organization whose volunteers foster adoptable dogs and cats in their homes.

The fluffy sporting affair, which features adoptable dogs from across the country, will air on Super Bowl Sunday, February 3, on Animal Planet.

Viewers can expect “three hours of fuzzy faces, sloppy kisses and puppy penalties,” according to a release from Animal Planet. Punxsutawney Phil will make a special appearance with “two of his inner circle” to officiate the game’s coin toss. Then, players from Team Ruff and Team Fluff will drag their chew toys across an AstroTurf field to compete this year for the inaugural Petco Lombarky trophy, among other rewards.

Last year, City Dogs Rescue sent Charlie, a Feist/Whippet mix that apparently made so much of an impression that he was featured in the event’s main promo photos.

Puppy Bowl XIII airs at 3 p.m., and Animal Planet will show repeats all day.
