FRIDAY, JANUARY 13
COMEDY: Stop by Right Proper Brewing Company’s Brookland Production House for a beer or two, and get a side of free comedy. The Power of Positive Drinking hosts a New Year Survival Comedy Show featuring local greats, plus some special visitors from New York. *Note: Three additional comedy shows are listed in the “More” section. BURLESQUE: We frequently remind you that nothing can be spared from a burlesque treatment. This weekend, you get the pleasure of watching “Morticia, Gomez, Fester, and more, as you’ve never seen them before.” The Addams Family Burlesque and Variety Show will include burlesque performances by Cherie Sweetbottom, Pria Puss, and Carlita Caliente, plus sideshow performances by Alex Doll and Bella La Blanc. (The Bier Baron Tavern, 8 p.m. $12)
CONFUCIUS: Kong Dexin, a 77th-generation direct descendant of Confucius, directs and choreographs a dance drama performed by Hu Yang as Confucius, Tang Shiyi as a Concubine, and an ensemble of 55 performers. Confucius tells the story of the legendary scholar’s quest to instill codes of ethics, honor, and benevolence among the rulers of the Zhou Dynasty. (The Kennedy Center, 7:30 p.m. $30-$150, Saturday and Sunday performances also available)

SATURDAY, JANUARY 14
STORYTELLING: In the past year, people told over 150 stories at Story District shows. Story District’s Top Shelf picks the best eight stories from 2016. (The Lincoln Theatre, 6:30 p.m. $25)
TRIVIA: Do you know everything about sports, science, or history? Save your knowledge for another night. Fantom Trivia Night features ten rounds of everything pop-culture, from movies to TV, and of course, comics. (Fantom Comics. 7-11 p.m. $5 cover)
POP MUSIC: Originally gaining buzz for their cover of Justin Timberlake’s “Pusher Love Girl,” The Shadowboxers are now signed to Justin Timberlake’s Villa 40 artist development company. Hear the quintet “combine elements of modern pop, ’70s-style AM radio folk and classic R&B” when they perform at the Rock & Roll Hotel. (8 p.m. $15)
COMEDY: Capital Laughs hosts three of their favorite NYC comedians, who will each offer their best 20 minutes. As usual, use promo code “DCIST” for a special discount. (Town Tavern DC, 8:30-10:30 p.m. $8-12)
