A man tried to light himself on fire outside of the Trump International Hotel in D.C. last night to protest the election of Donald Trump.

A nearby construction worker told The Washington Post that he saw the man “surrounded by flames, uttering the name of President-elect Trump in what appeared to be an angry manner.”

D.C. Fire and EMS sent an ambulance to the intersection of 12th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW around 9:23 p.m., according to public information officer Vito Maggiolo.

Fire officials “quickly extinguished whatever fire there was” at the scene, Maggiolo told DCist. The man had “burn injuries considered to be serious but non life threatening,” and officials took him to an area hospital.

The man, who hasn’t been identified, told NBC Washington’s Shomari Stone that he was trying to light himself on fire “as an act of protest… protesting the fact that we’ve elected somebody who is completely incapable respecting the constitution of the United States.”
